this summer i’m moving back to monticello
eat my fill of fry bread
spend some time with the western wind
in colorado
dead horse point is where i’ll start
end my day at delicate arch
in moab
i thought i’d check out a movie scene
in monument valley but i never did
i thought i’d check out mexican hat
to see what the fuss was all about but i never did
monticello i’m coming home

but it’s worth the time

down in bluff
leave monticello
and all our stuff
visit the reservation
make new friends
watch the sun slowly set
and the moon descend

we drove to four corners
to laugh at the tourists
but we got there quite late
and they have no places to stay
so we slept in my car
and you polished off a bottle
of jack daniels
and you got this look in your eyes

snuck in through my window
with one thing on your mind
but i can taste the whiskey
on your lips through the
mouthwash used to cover it
for a moment you had me
